Why should you turn off fast charging mode on smartphones?

Fast charging mode is considered a great utility on Smartphones. This feature helps users save time on charging, prevents work interruptions, or is useful in emergencies when the battery runs out but cannot be charged in time. However, this mode has many drawbacks that affect users. So what is fast charging and why should users limit its use will be shared in the article below.

1. What is fast charging mode? Why should you limit using this mode?

Fast charging mode is an outstanding advantage suitable for those with busy work schedules and the current fast-paced lifestyle. A phone that is fully charged in just 60 minutes or even less saves a lot of time for users. However, alongside this, there are many potential risks for users and even the device.

Why should you limit using this mode?

When using fast charging mode, it means increasing the voltage or current intensity for your phone. In fact, this feature helps users not spend too much time fully charging the battery, but frequent use will affect the battery’s lifespan. Specifically, the battery may degrade quickly in just 18 – 24 months of use.

Another limitation is that fast charging will make the phone hotter than usual. If in an air-conditioned place, the temperature will decrease, but in an overly hot environment or using the phone while charging will affect the hardware or cause explosions, more seriously affecting the user’s life.

Manufacturers of chargers do not allow too much current to enter smart devices, especially phones and tablets, because they want to prevent the risk of battery damage, unusable devices, or explosions. Therefore, it is advisable to limit turning on fast charging mode on smartphones.

Moreover, if fast charging is done frequently at night, it means you will keep the phone plugged in for 7 – 8 continuous hours. The phone will have 100% battery after a night but will reduce the device’s lifespan. Therefore, it is advisable to limit this feature to the lowest level by turning off fast charging mode on the phone.

2. How to turn off fast charging mode on the phone:

The simplest way to turn off fast charging mode is to operate from the phone’s settings, which are integrated with an on/off button. For example, for Samsung phones:

Go to Settings => select Device Maintenance => select Battery => Select the 3-dot icon on the right => Select Advanced settings. At this point, users will see the option to turn on/off wireless charging and fast charging => then choose to turn it off.

Use a regular charger: A regular charger will help you overcome this issue but ensure the charging cable is compatible.

Distinguish between fast chargers and regular chargers: Fast chargers will have phrases printed like “Quick Charge”, “Fast Charge”, “Dash Charge” or “Adaptive Fast Charging”, while regular chargers will not have these phrases.

Use a desktop computer instead of plugging directly into a power source: This method is suitable for office workers or those using computers, laptops, Xbox, or PlayStation. Just plug the charging cable into the USB port to connect the power to the smartphone – the output ports of these devices do not have high power.

Fast charging mode is currently widely used, especially by those with busy work schedules or frequent travel, and the phone is an indispensable work tool. However, this feature can affect users and damage the device if used in the long term. The solution for users is to equip themselves with a backup battery pack or a phone with a very high battery capacity to serve their work.
